Sakai Grand Evening Fish Market

A traditional annual event held on July 31. The origin of the market is said to date back to the Kamakura Period (1192-1333), when the fishermen in Sakai dedicated fish to the Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, praying for safety at sea and a bumper catch. The selling and buying of fresh fish with brisk voices can be seen and heard. It is a charming summer feature of Sakai.
Nankai Line, Hamadera-koen Station, 5min walk.
