Mizuma-dera Temple |
|

|
| The temple is said to have been founded by
a high priest, Gyoki in the middle of the 8th century. The
title 'Mizuma', or 'Between the rivers', relates to its location
at the meeting point of the two rivers, Sobura and the Kibitani
River.Known as the temple of apotropaic Kan-non. It is also
known as a matchmaking temple because of the grave of Onatsu
and Seijuro, a well-known tragic couple in a Kabuki repertoire.Mizuma
Park which is spread behind Mizuma-dera Temple is suitable
for cherry blossom viewing, especially for enjoying clouds
of 'Somei-yoshino' (cherry blossoms) just below them. The
building of Mizuma Station, built in 1926, is designed like
a temple. It was designated as one of the Hundred Best Stations
in the Kansai Region. |
