Mizuma-dera Temple


The temple is said to have been founded by a high priest, Gyoki in the middle of the 8th century. The title 'Mizuma', or 'Between the rivers', relates to its location at the meeting point of the two rivers, Sobura and the Kibitani River.Known as the temple of apotropaic Kan-non. It is also known as a matchmaking temple because of the grave of Onatsu and Seijuro, a well-known tragic couple in a Kabuki repertoire.Mizuma Park which is spread behind Mizuma-dera Temple is suitable for cherry blossom viewing, especially for enjoying clouds of 'Somei-yoshino' (cherry blossoms) just below them. The building of Mizuma Station, built in 1926, is designed like a temple. It was designated as one of the Hundred Best Stations in the Kansai Region.
